[Contributed by Martin Piper] Recently, a local homophobe accidentally promoted IKEA’s pride bags. His intention was to complain about it, but because he included an ordering link to the bags, people started thanking him for making it easier to find the bag.
Who is Jason Wong?
Jason Wong, linked to Focus on the Family, found controversy when he planned to invite a known homophobic and transphobic foreign hate speaker to talk to Singaporeans. The invited “doctor” was even ruled not an expert in court.
Despite being told the foreign hate speaker promotes discrimination Jason proceeded with the event. Jason’s “webinar” session was so bad and riddled with incorrect claims that it prompted factual corrections from civil society.
Jason is also linked to “conversion therapy” which causes depression and suicides in its victims.
Netizens pointed out the hypocrisy in Jason Wong’s IKEA post
The title of Jason’s post is: “๐ช๐ถ๐น๐น ๐๐๐๐ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐บ๐ผ๐๐ฒ ๐ง๐ฟ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ป๐ฐ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป?” Implying he’s calling for “true diversity and inclusion”. In his post he also wrote “This [the freedom to choose their preferred entertainment, a magic show by a homophobic religious leader] was a good example of standing up for true diversity of viewpoints and opinions, and opposing โcancel cultureโ.”
Yet at the same time he is calling for IKEA rainbow bags to be cancelled.
It’s hypocritical for Jason to try to claim to be “inclusive” whilst making incorrect claims that attack others. Especially since he invites foreign hate speakers that exclude certain people based on who they are from birth.
It’s also obviously hypocritical to talk about “opposing cancel culture” while at the same time calling for the LGBT pride bag to be cancelled.
