December last year, a video of a boy throwing a community cat off a building at Boon Lay Ave went viral. This time, a similar incident came to light in Tampines, where a boy was caught on camera abusing community cats. A TikToker shared that the boy was placing toy explosives and shooting at the helpless animals.
Age is not a valid excuse for animal cruelty.
While it is disheartening to see young children engaging in such abhorrent behavior, we shouldn’t excuse them. In fact, studies have shown that individuals who engage in animal abuse at a young age are more likely to continue such behavior into adulthood. Worse still, it may lead to more serious crimes and violent acts.
It is crucial that we address the root causes of such behavior. We must provide education and counseling to help people understand the impact of their actions on innocent creatures. Authorities should also ensure that the boy in question faces appropriate consequences for his actions.
Animal cruelty is a serious issue that should not be taken lightly. We must all work together to create a society where such behavior is not tolerated, regardless of age or background. As a community, we must stand up against animal abuse and promote empathy, compassion, and kindness towards all living creatures.
