From stupid suggestions like degree expiry to crocodile tears, these are the worst moments from this year’s budget debate.
Worst Moments From Budget Debate 2022
The budget debate just last week was disappointing to say the least. Instead of addressing problems that Singaporeans face, our leaders are focused on making headlines with the worst suggestions and lousy antics. Here are some of them.
1) Sembawang GRC Poh Li San – Regulate Bubble Tea Shops
Sembawang GRC MP Poh Li San spoke about diabetes and obesity. She said that she is concerned about the “mushrooming of bubble tea outlets all over Singapore over the past few years”. So she suggested that bubble tea shops should be reduced and regulated.
This comment sums up how we feel about her suggestion.
2) Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC Hany Soh – Baby Shark Will Make Our Kids Go Green!
Yeah this really happened. Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC MP Hany Soh said during the budget debate that Baby Shark or CocoMelon songs will help make our kids “become our young, budding green champions”.
We already have our own Captain Green and Water Wally, please don’t go waste time and resources to make some bad imitation of Baby Shark. Also, are these really even effective?
3) Choa Chu Kang GRC Don Wee – My Outfit Says NS Must Be Safe
One of the stupidest things said in parliament was by this Don Wee from Choa Chu Kang GRC. Don Wee wore blue and yellow (maybe in support of Ukraine), but what he said was this –
“Sir, the colors of my outfit today emphasize the importance of SAF ‘s realistic training and its safety record.”
Don Wee
He then talked about how important it is to keep our NSmen safe. What he said makes no sense at all, even Tan Chuan Jin also doesn’t get it.
“I have to confess, I’m quite confused by the colors.”
Tan Chuan Jin
After that the parliament somehow became a fashion show when Jalan Besar GRC MP Denise Phua decided to also talk about her outfit colors.
“Sir, I hope you’re not confused by my national colors.”
Denise Phua
Dear MPs, this is the parliament and this is not New York fashion week. Talk about the budget, not about your clothes please, especially when it doesn’t even make sense to bring it up.
4) Jurong GRC Shawn Huang – Shedding Tears For Budget
What’s worse than a fashion show? Crocodile tears. Jurong GRC MP Shawn Huang suddenly started crying when talking about science and technology. He said he was touched by his former cybersecurity company.
After that he say happy birthday to his daughter and that he hopes she will get to grow up in a “tech enriched” country. Then he ends his speech by saying “Majulah Singapore, I support the budget”. Seriously, want to shed crocodile tears can at least pick a better moment?
5) West Coast GRC Ang Wei Neng – Expiring University Degrees
Of course, the most publicly ridiculed move was by West Coast GRC’s Ang Wei Neng. He suggested the “radical” idea for degrees from local universities to have a 5-year validity. He says this will force people to upgrade themselves to keep their degrees valid.
After that he issued a clarification saying that it is a “food for thought”. Seriously? This is the parliament, keep your “food for thought” to the dining table in your ivory tower.
We really need to review the people that become MPs
All these free-riding back-benchers from GRCs really cannot make the cut. They don’t even seem to know what the purpose of a budget debate is.
Of they don’t shear some tears, nor say something in parliament, they might lost their paycheck in 2025… say too much, also lost it like Aunty flower that told GKY off saying that she can repeat in English if he does not understand Chinese…. 😂
一代不如一代!很怀念李资政,吳庆瑞先生,杜进才博士,林子安….有远見,有魄力,有策略,有智慧…
现在的…人民活在 水深火热之中,只听 到….
This is the quality of the people you want representing you in parliament. Idiots have no cure for stupidity. Wake up Singapore.
The GRC Electrol System should be abolished as crackpots & crybabies are elected through the back door. If we wish to have robust candidates with knowledge about what they are voted for, then let us have single ward constituencies. Right now we have a Parliament consisting ‘tompang cases’
A single ward constituencies still the best from the first generation of leaders, proven, even less educated can be good MP as they understand the hardship of being poor, better than the present scholarship, only care for their pockets then the residents needs
I stopped watching the Wayang in Parliament long ago.
If ( bec I cant believe it), what I read here is true, I FEAR for MY COUNTRY FUTURE.
STUPIDITY AMPLIFIED in public.
Sad. LKY’s and his team’s legacies gone down the drain!
Dont vote PAP next GE on 2025!
I am persuading my relatives, friends and neighbours not to vote PAP.
Dont let them have super majority cos we are getting super idiots, super morons and super incompetent MPs and civil servants! Eg. Stupid suggestions by moron MPs, arrogance and abuse of position by some chairman and CEOs…
Born in Singaporeans become 2nd and 3rd class citizens. Future generations will suffer.
Many talented Singaporeans migrating – see 2020 Pop Census!
How all thes clowns can got elected into Parliament I truly don’t understand. It is going to downgrade the party image. The budget debate is to be made fair and comfortable for all businesses and people in the street but the idiotic MP are making a fool of themselves making irrelevant points in the budget debate. Hope the Parliament speaker can take tough action to fine these clown of Mps otherwise it will bring down the party image.
Implement point system for current MPs and future MPs wannabes …. Just like Minster of manpower suggested for s-pass and e-pass holders and applicants….You can call it p-pass. The standard should be 80 to qualify since they are proclaimed elites.
Budget topic, not the unnecessary related. We need to find a supportive solution for Singaporeans during is pandemic, do think before you speak.
O M G !%€/#¥&€
Indeed sad to see we have such poor quality politicians hogging the limelight giving stupid suggestions. Single ward only contest will let real true blue Singaporean with a heart to serve comes forward and save us from having to live with such nonsense…
I think to save budget should cut mp pay by half. 13th month pay with no bonuses. Same time cannot have other outside directorship or what not. Definitely will save a lot of our budget and free jobs for higher performing private sector ppl
*VTO* ..Vote Them Out
Unlimited Stupidity
Pathetic to say d least
Jus by getting into parliament does not make u a minister. How u raise d citizens makes one !
The hot issue to me now is; why Grab Rental still insisted hirers to submit medical certification when tested positive for Covid. I followed MOH/MOM guidelines not to visit clinic just for the sake of getting mc, now I am not able to get rental rebate from Grab rental when tested positive from 6th Feb to 13th Feb, 2022. With mc, Grab rental will waived rental for the period indicated in the mc. This is by far more importance issue not to compromise our health care system and minimize the spread. No MP raise this issue at all???
Are you sure u can attack this point brought out by MP Poh Li San?
Actually sugar intake is also an addiction, it stimulates release of dopamine, analogous to drug addiction. So if drugs are illegal/regulated, then diabetes/obesity is certainly a social issue and it is legit to suppress bubble tea shops, although I don’t know whether it is relevant to a “budget debate”. Remember, food and sugar industries are big scammers. I think obese people’s citizenship/heathcare benefits should expire.
OMG…i thought those suggestions were came from neighbours…surprising it’s from our own…..downfall of SG begins…..
